Healing Leaky Gut and Diet
How healing leaky gut and diet is so important.I began to study the effects of foods on my son’s behaviors. My own experience with what I had previously referred to as food allergies was based solely on my experience of migraine headaches which I had suffered from since early childhood. In my early twenties, I noticed that my body reacted wildly with numb fingers, a tingling feeling in my legs, a spacey-like out of it-ness in my thinking, and an inability to effectively verbalize my thoughts. This would continue for about 15 minutes when a crashing, blinding headache would take over, leaving me in pain with a thick tongue for many hours and more often ... days. A clever, concerned friend noticed the ingredients in the can of iced tea that I was drinking (including Sodium Benzoate and assorted Nitrites) and correlated the fact that after I drank the tea, my migraines would occur. I cut the tea out of my diet and began to look at the ingredients of packaged food and beverage products before ingesting them. I found that many products contained MSG, Sodium Benzoate, Nitrites, Nitrates, and Sulfites. Would this be the link for my son regarding healing leaky gut and diet? As soon as I eliminated the foods containing these additives, the migraines disappeared. That was the beginning of my elimination diet and the crux of what led me to successfully begin a serious evaluation of healing leaky gut and diet relating my son’s behaviors and what he ate. I had heard great reports from parents of kids with CP and other Special Needs about a Doctor Fryman, who was a practicing Osteopath. Her successful treatments had parents lined up for months for an appointment. I read about Osteopathy and determined that it certainly could do no harm to give it a shot, especially with being aware of the connection between healing leaky gut and diet. I was successful in locating a former student of Dr. Fryman’s - Dr. James Murphy, D.O - who had just started practicing in San Diego County. LEAKY GUT (now known as Autisticentercolitis) I noticed that my son would often press his lower belly against his play table as he worked with the train set. He screamed when I would try to move him to the chair that was proportioned properly for his size and which allowed him to keep both of his feet firmly planted on the floor.
This was a CP treatment to maintain "grounding" in order to help facilitate better use of his hands and fingers. He would have nothing to do with it. He would stand at a crouch, because of the CP or perhaps because the pose was more effective in his desire to press his lower abdomen firmly against the wooden table for hours at a time if left to his own accord. I have learned that he achieved pain relief in his gut by applying pressure to it. These factors apply to how leaky gut and diet are such an important part of the autism spectrum of disorders.
