Asperger Treatment
Family-Driven & Child-Centered
Asperger treatment needs to be child-centered and family-driven in order to be successful. There are many interventions that are used in the treatment of Asperger syndrome and disorders in the autism spectrum. Finding Asperger treatment is a continuous process. Researchers are certain that the strategies should be child-centered and family-driven in order to be successful. There are different interventions for AS families to consider. The first step is to secure services through a local agency. Early intervention is ideal. The EI services are designed for children from birth to three years of age. After early intervention services are complete, the child is transitioned into a preschool program or Wraparound services or both. How can my family participate in early intervention for our AS child? Early intervention is very important in the treatment of Aspergers and related pervasive developmental disorders. Your family can work with ... - speech therapists,
- developmental specialists, and
- case managers to create a program catered to your child's specific needs.
These professionals work together in the following ways: - This group meets quarterly to discuss objectives and goals for your child to achieve.
- These goals will be broken down into sections and addressed in a systematic fashion.
- The goals are moved into a maintenance stage once your child demonstrates mastery.
The number of therapy hours will vary from case to case but early intervention commonly meets two or three times each week. Each shift lasts about one hour, and the child usually has EI services for about nine months to a year, depending on when he or she was diagnosed. What is a Wraparound service? As an Apserger treatment, Wraparound services are designed to wrap around your child in his or her natural environment. Services are available in ... - school,
- home, and
- community settings, depending on your child’s specific needs.
Your child will have a behavior specialist, case manager, and a therapeutic staff support (TSS) on the case. Many agencies assign two TSS to each case to help the child work with different people. The case mangager is responsible for organizing your child’s schedule and maintaining communication with the family. The behavior specialist designs drills and activities according to the treatment plan and the TSS works one-on-one with your child. Wraparound is unique in that it employs different teaching strategies including Greenspan’s Floortime, Applied Behavior Analysis, and sensory integration among other interventions. Each child’s session is catered to his or her specific needs and strengths in a Wraparound program. Each child is unique and his or her treatment plan should be designed accordingly. Asperger treatment is ongoing and families serve as the best center for the child’s therapy. Return to Home Page from "Asperger Treatment"
